Raised in the horticultural traditions of West Texas, Whitney brings generations of plant knowledge and a love for landscape craftsmanship to every San Diego yard—making Golden Roots a trusted name.

It all began with family, and continues to thrive as one. Russel is a third-generation nurseryman, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Joe House, who owned and operated House Nursery for 50 years. Located on 500 acres in East Texas, the nursery supplied plants to major retailers like Lowe’s and Home Depot, where Russel developed his expertise in horticulture and gained his green thumb. Russel is married to his wife, Whitney and together they have a son, Tyler Rex and daughter, Bebe Wynn along with four senior dogs.

As the owner of Golden Roots, I bring a deep passion for landscape design and a strong foundation in horticulture. After earning a degree in Agricultural Business from Texas Tech University, I gained extensive experience working with a large commercial landscape company in Texas. My journey then led me to San Diego, where I further expanded my expertise in horticulture and landscape design. Driven by a desire to create exceptional outdoor spaces, I founded Golden Roots as a family-run business, committed to providing high-end, personalized landscape design for homeowners in Southern California.
